Kathy Flammang was born in 1952 and raised on a farm in Iowa, where creativity, resilience, and hard work were woven into everyday life.
Over the decades, she has worn many hats—artist, educator, motivational speaker, therapist, and lifelong student—each shaping the voice and perspective found in these pages.
In her thirties, Kathy taught painting through adult education, later spending more than ten years as a motivational speaker at women’s conferences, churches, and community events across the country and internationally. She became the first certified chromotherapist in the United States after training in Canada and has authored multiple publications, including a work archived in the Library of Congress.
Returning to college in her late forties, Kathy earned both an associate’s and a bachelor’s degree in psychology and went on to provide lab therapy and client intake evaluation in a clinical setting. At age seventy-two, she added yet another chapter—earning a cannabis master’s degree—proving that curiosity has no expiration date.
Now living in Minnesota and traveling south during the winter months, Kathy has returned to her first love: art. Her sketches appear throughout this book, offering visual reflections alongside the written word. A mother of three grown sons and a grandmother of two, Kathy believes deeply that life is a precious commodity—never to be wasted, even when slowed by hardship.
After a multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2000, her life changed pace, but not purpose.
